Ecstatic Dance @ The Flowjo

Free form improvisational spiritually oriented dance. There is 90 minutes of uninterrupted dance. People can break as needed but there is no socializing during the set. There is an opening and closing circle where people share their experience. People mostly dance individually but free form coupling is also common. Much of the practice is based on the 5 Rhythms dance experience started by Gabrielle Roth. $10 suggested donation. Flowjo Website.

Durham Dance Wave Sundays

Durham Dance Wave and Living Arts are cosponsoring this free form improvisational dance. Patterned on the Ecstatic Dance form this is an uninterrupted 90 minutes of unstructured dancing often as an individual though people may elect to dance as a couple or group. Socializing is discouraged during the dance. Ecstatic Dance was a form developed by Gabrielle Roth who referred to it as the 5 Rhythms. The dance starts with a meditative circle and starts with very slow meditative music which then builds in intensity to wild energetic music and then slows down to stillness and a sharing circle at the end. What is a Beginners Boot Camp Workshop?
It’s a great way to jump start your dancing. In one afternoon our carefully designed dance program can fast track your dancing. When you’re pressed for time and you want to learn to dance quickly, these afternoon Boot Camps are just the thing. In just one afternoon you can acquire the basic fundamentals of a dance. Our goal is to get you in dance shape and ready for the dance floor.

Dance style being taught:
The dance style being taught rotates. Check the CarolinaDanceClub.com website to find out which dance will be taught.

No partner or prior dance experience is necessary. Just be ready to have fun, learn and meet new friends. These workshops start you off with the basic rhythm, footwork and move you through partnering, turning technique and some flashy basic moves. We offer 3 afternoon progressive workshops that start at 3pm and progress to a 4pm and 5pm workshop. Take one, two or all three (recommended) workshops in the series.

Register at the door. Arrive 15 minutes prior to your first workshop.

Swing Dancing in Raleigh
Every Sunday evening at the Raleigh Elks Lodge ballroom.

LESSON: Free beginner East Coast Swing lesson at 6:15 pm with your paid admission. No partner necessary.

DANCE: 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm with award-winning DJ Wesley Boz. From 7:00 to 8:35 pm, the music is 1930, ’40s Big Band, Swinging Jazz, ’50-’60s Rock n’Roll Swing, Rockabilly, and Jump Blues for our Lindy & East Coast Swing “Jitterbug”, Balboa style swing dancers. From 8:35 to 10:00 pm, the music features Top 40, R&B, Blues, Hip Hop for the West Coast Swing and Hustle dancers.

PRICING: $12 General Public, $9 CDC Carolina Dance Club, $7 Student (17-22 yrs.) Includes afternoon Salsa dancing, Introductory Salsa Lesson AND our evening Swing dance and beginner Swing lesson.

Sunday Salsa Social
6:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Every Sunday Social, half Salsa with Bachata, Merengue, Kizomba, Cha. Lesson 6:30-7:15. $7 $6 for student, military with ID. Children welcome and free. Informal. We have a rotating DJ schedule and there may be changes, but the usual is 1st Sunday – DJ Abuelo Salsero Jack Wolf 2nd- Salsa Mike Delucia, 3rd either Pedro Paz or DJ Monte Alban, 4th Felix Padilla, 5th Monte Alban. Please note, Triangle Dance Studio has no sign but it is right next to Research Triangle Dental. We are in the front building downstairs studio.
