Dance Gumbo Retiring * RIP

We started Dance Gumbo back in the 90s and it was a haven for the cross dancers that liked some salsa in their swing, little bit of this and that.

At its height I remember some of the great times and fun dancers.

I want to thank everybody a lot, Sandra for all the pineapple chopped and time trying out this West Coast and that Salsa. The regular sweethearts in the early years, such incredible dancers and nice people- Cindy, Carrie, Debbie, Maria, Becky, Gail, many more - too numerous to count and always a pleasure to dance with, and the gents who I didn't get to dance with but tripped the night fantastic- Jim, Lew, Bruce, Daniel, James S. In recent years we lost so many people and it was a smaller but dedicated crowd, but I see no point in hanging on if the crowd is not coming out.

Special thanks to Papa Jim for making Triangle Dance Studio the epicenter of our dance beings. Sometimes I leave the house going to Food Lion and just by force of habit end up driving to Triangle Dance Studio.

I am not retiring from dancing, by any means, and have more garbanzos on my plate than I can manage. The Salsa is going strong with the Sunday Socials and the new Second Saturday Baile Chapel Hill * Carrboro and this week I am doing an Africa Meets Salsa with some of the African DJs. Plans are afoot for an Improv Dance combining Ecstatic, Tango Fusion, Blues Fusion, Worldbeat, so stay tuned and Bon Temps.

DIRECTIONS TO TRIANGLE DANCE STUDIO- 2603 S. MIAMI BLVD. DURHAM 27703

Studio is hard to find so just don't google but see landmarks below !!

From I-40: Take Exit 281/Miami Blvd. north (rt off exit). Go 3 miles. You will pass a Shell station and traffic light at Lumley Road. 2603 is the second driveway on the right after Lumley Rd. next to Research Triangle Dentist -a two story non descript building with no sign and the parking lot is in the back. It is just across from America's Best Realty.

From Durham Freeway Hway 147: Take Durham Freeway South and East past downtown Durham. Exit Ellis Rd. Exit 8 and make a left off the exit ramp. Go under the highway and continue on Ellis for a mile or two until it ends on Miami Blvd. Right on Miami and go 0.8 miles. 2603 is right across the street from America's Best Realty and the pet resort and nesxt to Research Triangle dentist. It is a white two story non-descript building with no sign and the parking lot is in the back.
