Dancing at the Gardens:Swing

Enjoy this rare opportunity to dance on the gorgeous wood floors of the Doris Duke Center’s Kirby Horton Hall. Swing at the Gardens will feature DJs playing classic-style East Coast swing. The dance will begin with a one-hour beginner lesson at 7 p.m. with Chris & Holly Owens, of whatashuffle.com, which is free with admission and open to people of all ages (16+). The lesson will provide you with basic moves that will serve you all night. You do not need any dance experience, nor exceptional grace or stamina, nor even a partner, just enthusiasm. You may dress up or come in jeans, but please wear low-heeled leather-soled shoes to protect your knees and our floor. $10; $8 Gardens members & students/Duke staff, through noon on Jan. 24. Thereafter: $12 for all; $5 student rush. Advance tickets may be purchased with cash, check or credit card. At the door, all tickets must be purchased with cash/check only.
