Annie Velez is well known to all Salseros in this community and taught for many years with the Cobo Brothers Dance Company, indeed tried to make the author into Mr. Smooth with mixed results, but one of my favorite teachers, ever. She took a break doing the mommy dance and now is coming back to share her talents.
Aubrey Griffith-Zill was dazzling on Triangle Dance floors when she was yet in High School at Carolina Friends and is part of our Ecstatic Dance Flowjo tribe. She has taught both Latin with Cobo Brothers as well as Ballroom and is a regular fixture at Shakori Festival. Aubrey is a dynamic professional dancer, performer and instructor and has taught throughout the United States and abroad. She embodies a natural sense of art in motion and her unique philosophy and passion for dance is based on a deep understanding of the natural connection between movement and rhythm.
Mambo Dinamico was formed by Norberto “Betto” Herrera in 2004 and the group has taught nationally and internationally. Betto is a wonderful choreographer and his group’s performances are known for their inventiveness, humor, and dedication to the music. Here is a vid www.mambodinamico.com
Movimentos de Samba is the creation of Iya Silva of Durham, NC. She has been teaching and performing Brazilian Samba. See a video here!
Annie’s Workshop This class introduces basic female styling that includes body isolations, arm/hand styling, and turns. A simple and sexy choreography is also taught to provide the students the opportunity to express themselves on the dance floor with confidence
Aubrey’s Workshop In this workshop you will be introduced to authentic Latin movements and rhythms. We will warmup with Afro-Cuban body movements generating a playful environment. The focus of the workshop is smooth style cha cha (on2) with an emphasis on footwork, timing, and body isolations. Open to all.
