The dance wave is a form of ecstatic dance characterized as 90 minutes of speechless improvisational dance based somewhat on the 5 Rhythms Ecstatic Dance concept of Gabrielle Roth. This can be either solo dancing, partner dancing, contact improvisation, or ad lib group. The experience can be meditative or spiritually oriented for some individuals. Optional consent workshop at 6:30 PM. Dance opening circle begins roughly 7 PM. Donations accepted but not required. Dance sometimes occurs on Thursdays (almost always the last Thursday of the month) instead of Fridays. Dance sometimes occurs at Raleigh Rose Garden or other locations, including indoors during the winter. Dance is outdoors and weather dependent, but will usually occur during light rain. GRIEF ALCHEMY: A Movement & Sound Journey
Fall is a time of transition. Decay & loss is naturally present in Nature. In Chinese Medicine & Taoist Qigong philosophy, the energy of a season can be used to inspire our own internal processes. Spend an evening in contemplation of what “dead leaves” of the year you would like to shed. Utilize breath, qigong, dance, and sound to alchemize present or past grief and melancholy held in the body.
< Class Structure >
Sinead Corrigan, LAc., DACM will lead an interactive qigong class to help us connect to our Lungs, the “storehouse” of grief energy in the body. Class will flow straight into an ecstatic dance facilitated by Raleigh Ecstatic Dance. A curated playlist by Gino Lerebours will provide a container for you to further alchemize your inner tenderness. Coming down from this kinetic processing, Rush Dorsett will offer a soundbath journey, settling us with a grounding shower of crystal bowls, gong, and live healing vocals.
We as facilitators see this event as an opportunity to share things we personally utilize for our own self-healing with you. We hope you’ll come out and join the grief alchemy container!

< About the offerings >
QIGONG is translated as “cultivation of vitality”. These soft and gentle movements help to reset and reprogram the nervous system, while visualizations help to expand and brighten the mind. Emphasis of this event will be qigong for the lungs (the organ associated with grief, according to Chinese Medicine).
ECSTATIC DANCE: an intentional space where people from all walks of life are openly welcome to unite in the experience of a genuine moment through free expression and authentic movement to music, without shoes or talking.
SOUNDBATH: Sound is a powerful tool for relaxation. You will be immersed in a “sonic bath” of healing frequencies. The sound bath will be a live performance featuring Tibetan singing bowls and gongs, crystal Alchemy singing bowls, voice, and chimes. These healing tones guide the body and mind into deep states of relaxation where physical, emotional and energetic healing can occur.
