SUMMARY:Raleigh Ecstatic Dance
DESCRIPTION:The dance wave is a form of ecstatic dance characterized as 90 
 minutes of speechless improvisational dance based somewhat on the 5 Rhythm
 s Ecstatic Dance concept of Gabrielle Roth. This can be either solo dancin
 g\, partner dancing\, contact improvisation\, or ad lib group. The experie
 nce can be meditative or spiritually oriented for some individuals. Dancer
 s of all ages are welcome and there typically is no talking during the dan
 ce. Dance opening circle begins somewhere between 6:30 to 8 PM depending u
 pon the location (indoors tends to be 7:30-8 PM) and time of year. Sometim
 es there is yoga or another optional warm up prior to opening circle. Dona
 tions of $5-20 recommended\, but usually not required. No one will be refu
 sed for lack of funds. Funds go towards the costs of holding weekly dances
 \, a contact improvisation scholarship fund\, or charitable donations rath
 er than the volunteer organizers. Dance occurs indoors at the Unitarian Un
 iversalist Fellowship of Raleigh (usually Founders Hall\, but sometimes Ma
 in Sanctuary) or sometimes at The Portal HQ. Dance sometimes occurs outdoo
 rs at Pullen Park (across the street from the aquatic center)\, Raleigh Ro
 se Garden\, Wooten Meadow Park\, Dorothea Dix Park (Big Field or Spring Hi
 ll Park &amp\; Ride)\, or other outdoor locations. Dance sometimes occurs 
 on Fridays instead of Thursdays. Dance when outdoors is weather dependent\

  times since they can change last minute. This event listing is sometimes
