Description of Ecstatic Dance Wave-
For those non ecstaticim, the dance wave is 75-90 minutes of uninterrupted music and improvisational dance, that flows from quiet to exuberant and back to quiet like an ocean wave. It is a meditative journey of the body and soul. People dance solo or can couple. We ask people not to talk during the wave and can dance or sit as they please.
The concept is loosely based on Gabrielle Roth’s 5 Rhythms
African Latin Dance – This will feature both improvisational as well as dance types including African Salsa, Kizomba, Zouk. Soukhous (Merengue), Highlife, Soweto Jive, Cha Cha, Rai, North African, and Malian music.
I will try to balance it between improvisational and specific dance music.
Artists would include Africando, Matais Damasio, Calo Pascal, Manu Dbango, Nelson Freitas, Sunny Ade, Habib Koite, Angelique Kidjo
Pot Luck- Bring a box dinner or food to share at 6:30 and we can socialize and eat. Dance wave opening circle at 7
